N e So here in mid-January. The holidays are past. Our project successfully cooked.
We will build a house of straw! Well, not any straw. Straw is the main insulation. I can already hear many tell us A house of straw. What's the deal? You do not read The 3 Little Pigs? Of course we read this story! But just remember, the 3 little pigs built a house of straw, wood and brick. We will use these three materials in the construction of ours.
We will build a house structure beams and columns solid wood we take the field and directly from local producers. Subsequently we will adapt the technique of GREB (Ecological Research Group of the sandbar) to insulate the house with straw again for local producers to minimize transportation costs and the production of embodied energy. The recovery of exterior and interior walls will be made of wood siding protected using green products Lyvos . The roof will be covered with larch shingles which besides being very environmentally friendly, have a lifespan of over 100 extraordinary years.
The purpose of all this is having a house built with the least amount of synthetic material and leave the smallest footprint possible. We will also incorporate into our construction recovery systems rainwater Management, energy, passive solar heating, natural ventilation and finally a greenhouse cultivation in the year.
To help us achieve this great project we used a wonderful person: GN Catherine Marcoux, student Bachelor of Architectural Design at the University of Montreal. You can also learn more about it here . Catherine already working on house plans. We will soon be able to show you a brief overview of the house.
